First Test...

Ahh!!

First test was nothing like we all studied! They said it would be like that, but I guess I didn't believe them! A lot of application problems (which i am not the best at), and zero definitions (which i am great at! haha). We all agreed that a lot of the questions really could have been answered with 2 of the choices, it was tough to pick between them! At least its over...

We got our grades back for your vocab quiz last week though! I got a 90 on the first one...not bad, but its still a B! (an A starts at 91). We all did pretty good on that first quiz though, thankfully!

This afternoon they had a "simulation lab" type thing. I missed the first one because I was at work, but the second one they had the sophomore class come in, they set up an "ER", gave them some info, then they had to figure out what to do. It was pretty cool...actually seeing something now and not just reading about it!

I have already started on the homework for next week.... 7 chapters in the textbook, 4 math chapters, 2 technique book chapters, and 1 nutrition chapter! whooo!

First Quiz!

Ok...first quiz down!
I remembered all my definitions thankfully, but the quiz was set up different that I expected! Some were short answer, completely write out the definition, true/false, and matching! Thats the bad part about first tests, you never know how they are going to be set up.

On another note, my scrub top got in! I didn't realize scrubs run so big, so I had to order a smaller top and it came in today...so I now have a complete set of red scrubs and a white lab coat!

First Week

OVERWHELMING already!!

I thought a blog would be a good way for anyone who wants to keep up with me in nursing school, to read the ups/down, good and bad!

Don't get me wrong, I am SOO glad I got into the program, but even after the first day...I know its going to be a lot of work (but well worth it!).

First of all, my books this year were $738....compared to about 250-300 usually. That isn't counting the other supplies like scrubs, lab coat, shoes, hemostat, stethascope (mine is pink!), etc. Oh well though, like I said..its worth it!

We already have a vocab quiz on Friday. We alternate weekly taking a test or a quiz. The first quiz shouldn't be too bad, most of the words I already knew...the worst part is not really knowing how the quiz is actually set up! I'll let ya know how it goes...

I am really excited about starting clinicals though! We start in a nursing home in 2 weeks! I'm a little nervous about it of course, but ready to get started because it makes everything a lot more real that way!

We got a tour of our skills lab on Tuesday, way cool! Really great setup, very life-like. We even have a birthing-mom mannequin, and other simulated ones that have a heart beat, pulse, etc.

Well, it's 2am, and I have been reading/working math problems (dosage calculations)/studying notecards for probably 4 hours today. I am bound and determined to read everything they assign us, do all the math sheets, master all the skills in lab...and pass the board!! (only 2 years to go! haha)
